Bob Fraser School of Flight
Newsletter - February 2010
From your Board of Directors….
Well the 2010 Winter Olympic are here which means the TFR “to the north” is in effect until the end of March.
The board discussed “adopting an airplane” as a way to help cut down on the corrosion issues. There are more
great specials for this month to take advantage of. Other club happenings; the monthly safety meeting will be
on Wednesday the 10th at Officer’s club, and a long term activities calendar in the works.
Safety Tip of the Month…
I've discovered a website called Over the Airwaves. http://overtheairwaves.com. This website is absolutely
chocked full of safety and skill tips, accident reports and newsy bits. It is produced by Bob Miller; a CFII based
in Tonawanda, and is also available as an e-newsletter. There is a fresh issue every two weeks.
Really worth a look!
T-Hangars.…
We are getting a lot closer to finally making this a reality!! The club needs to see what we can do through
membership to defer the overall cost. The following is an initial list of equipment and labor that we would like
to obtain through our membership, either by donation or at a reduced cost for this project:
- Approx. 600yds of fill, any material that would support a firm base for the concrete pad that the structures
will be sitting on.
- Dump truck and trailer to move the material.
- 2 ton roller
- 15-20 ton excavator w/ blade
- Concrete labor to help pour and lay out forms for a 4" x 230'x 51' pad, if anyone can get a deal on 125 yards of
concrete that would really help.
Another email will be sent when we start the process to request help for erecting the structure and equipment
needed for that, probably 2 - man lifts and a large forklift.
If you can help please get this information to John as soon as possible as this will help in obtaining the
finances. Thanks for any thing that you can do.
Olympic TFR & Club Aircraft….
During this TFR; No club aircraft will operate VFR north of Anacortes (no islands) and the north shoreline of
Bayview Training Area. No club aircraft will operate IFR North of NAS Whidbey Island, approaches to NAS
Whidbey are allowed. Questions, contact Chief Pilot Bob Fraser or manager John Humphries.
