257-4359 www.winfc.com What is a private pilot license?
A private pilot license
lasts a lifetime and with this you can enjoy the adventure of flying yourself
and friends around in a single engine airplane. To obtain this license the FAA requires
a minimum of 40 hours of flight time. The national average is closer to 73 hrs,
Whidbey Island Navy Flying Club students average around 55-60 hrs, and complete
the course within 9 to 12 months. The aircraft range from $75-$100 / hr and the
instructor is $30 / hr. The
investment is around $6,000 to complete your private pilot license training. If
it takes you longer to complete, the cost will increase because you will not
develop the skills on a consistent basis, thus you will end up having to redo
flights. There is a more detailed list of cost on the back of this sheet. ALL
costs are estimates because every pilot is different! Items you will need…
There is a "kit" of
books and materials that you will need that we sell for $200. The main book is
the Jeppesen Private Pilot manual, other items include; a log book, flight
computer, plotter and all the reading material you will need to pass the
written, oral and flight exams. We strongly recommend purchasing this “kit”, it
is definitely worth your money. You
will also need a headset, but we have those for you to use for free unless you
want to purchase one solely for your use, we can show you the options
available. Getting Started…
You are in control of scheduling your flights and instruction. We recommend that you have the time to schedule at least one event a week to get completed within the nine to twelve month window. The course is designed as self-study and "one on one" instruction with your primary instructor. We do offer a “ground school” to help those students who enjoy classroom style learning, and the cost is about two-thirds cheaper than you will find anywhere else.
