About Us
Organization WINFC is a non-profit organization
sponsored by NAS Whidbey Island. Club Operations and Maintenance oversight are
provided by an eight member Board of Directors as well as designated
representatives of the Commanding Officer, NAS Whidbey Island. Fiscal oversight,
accounting and marketing functions are provided by the U.S. Navy's Northwest
regional Fleet & Family Readiness (FFR), also known as Morale Welfare and
Recreation.
WINFC'S Primary mission is to provide affordable, safe,
quality flight training to active, reserve, guard, and retired military
personnel and their dependents. Due to the very limited opportunity for this
type of service in our local community, WINFC is also open to Federal, DOD
employees and contractors, as well as the general public
through the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). Essentially anyone can take advantage of our
rates and experience. Feel free to contact the
manager with any questions you may
have.
CFI Staff Senior staff and BOD members are
primarily active and retired Naval Aviators, many of them combat veterans, who
have a passion for aviation and enjoy passing on their knowledge and experience
to our students. Their Navy experience and training make them part of an elite
group of aviators that WINFC is very fortunate to have on staff.
Maintenance WINFC's maintenance program is
governed by Naval Instruction BUPERS 1710.22, which holds us to a much higher
standard of maintenance than most FAR part 61/91 operators. Our routine
inspection cycle includes: 50hr (with oil analyses), 100hr., as well as annual
inspections. All aircraft engines are purchased directly from Lycoming, and are
replaced promptly at 20% over TBO.
Our Director of Maintenance Ron Hoffman (retired
aviation senior chief) has been working on WINFC aircraft for more than ten
years.
